New Rule: This rule was stupid and it's gone.Thought it was strange that the creators of the game never even mention this as an influence and there’s no references out there that the game and movies are related in any way.Science Fiction, or Speculative Fiction if you prefer. While the plot and most of the details are definitely different, it’s almost obvious that the game got some ideas from these movies (the name is a dead give away). In that movie the virus actually spreads similar to the game and the monsters are also called metamorphs. There’s even a remake of the movie in 1991 called Dead Space that takes place right outside the orbit of Saturn and starts as a considered “safe” research facility sends out an anonymous distress signal. It turns into a horror Alien like movie and the monster kills almost all the crew. There’s a movie called “Forbidden World” (also released as “Mutant”) from 1982 about a futuristic science team that creates a virus mixed with human DNA that creates a monster on a space station. A little fun thing I found after doing some digging.
